The Be World Ready Course (SOCL 1128 or IDPL 9103) is a mandatory 3-credit course designed to support and enhance your Global Learning Experience (GLE). This 14-week in-person course runs during the same term you’ll be participating in your Global Learning Experience, and it’s tailored to help students build essential skills to prepare them for their Be World Ready journey and beyond.

Course Details

The Be World Ready course is highly interactive, engaging, reflective, and practical.

Classes are typically held, in-person, in the evenings (6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.) to accommodate students’ term class schedules. The course includes a mix of assignments and activities, some of which are designed to be completed while you’re abroad, helping you apply what you’re learning in real time. The in-person delivery of the course takes place at one of our main campuses (Welland or Niagara-on-the-Lake).

Yes, all participants of a Be World Ready Global Learning Experience will be required to take part in this mandatory course. The course you will be enroled in is SOCL 1128 or IDPL 9103 – Be World Ready. Please review the course outline. This is a 3 credit Niagara College course.

Yes. Similar to other college courses, it involves assignments, assessments, and activities, and a strong committed attitude of active participation. The cohort of this course will include the peers you will be travelling to your GLE destination with, and other students who will be participating in GLE’s to other destinations during the same break week. Only students who are going abroad during their break week with Be World Ready are currently offered this course. You will have a Be World Ready Brightspace course and a formal teaching and learning plan (TLP) will be provided to help you understand your learning journey and obligations over the duration of the course. The course will be a full term course.

The delivery of the Be World Ready course is fully in-person. The course will be delivered in a 14-week format, which runs the entire typical term length of 4 months. Classes are typically held in the evenings (6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.) to accommodate students’ existing class schedules.

If you have a General Elective or Liberal Elective (GE/LE) credit during the term of your GLE it is unlikely that you will have any additional fees to take the course. If you have already satisfied all GE/LE requirements for your program, or do not require a GE/LE for your program, tuition credits exceeding load fee may apply. No. All pre-departure training and grant requirements will be incorporated into the course.

Yes! You will receive 3 credits for either a Liberal Elective or General Elective course, depending in your program level.

Yes. All students travelling with Be World Ready on a Global Learning Experience must take this course, as pre-departure training and grant requirements are now incorporated into the course and no longer offered outside of the course.
