A Weekend in Ellicottville: A Refreshing Pause During Our Be World Ready Journey
Sometimes, growth doesn’t just happen in classrooms or conference halls — it happens on a quiet trail, a cozy café corner, or at the top of a ski hill. This past weekend, a few of us from the Be World Ready team took a spontaneous trip to Ellicottville, and it turned into a perfect reminder of why stepping out of our usual environment matters.
Why Ellicottville?
Nestled in the hills of Western New York, Ellicottville is known for its small-town charm, winding roads, and welcoming locals. For us, it offered something different: a chance to reflect, reconnect, and breathe.
- 🎿 Ski lifts stood still in the summer breeze
- ☕ We tried locally roasted coffee at a spot called Bike & Bean
- 🥾 Took a short hike near Holiday Valley and shared stories from our recent student trips
Unexpected Lessons
What struck us most was how Ellicottville mirrored our core values:
- Immersion. Even in a place just across the border, we felt transported — surrounded by a culture and pace that made us slow down and take it all in.
- Connection. With no itinerary and no agenda, we laughed, explored, and talked about what’s next for Be World Ready.
- Resilience. One team member forgot their hiking shoes. Another took a wrong turn on a morning walk. It was fine. We adapted — and that’s what global experience teaches us best.
Looking Ahead
While this wasn’t an official Be World Ready trip, it reminded us why we do what we do. Travel doesn’t have to be far-flung or formal — it just has to shift your perspective.
To the students getting ready for their own global experiences: take it all in. Even the unplanned moments matter.
Closing Thoughts
We left Ellicottville feeling lighter — and more aligned than ever with our mission: to help students step out, step up, and see the world (and themselves) differently.
Until next time,
The Be World Ready Team
