Hospitality students learn the tricks of the trade at Disney World

Students of NC’s Hospitality and Tourism Management program had the opportunity to travel to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5. The International Field Studies trip was part of the College’s Be World Ready program.

The students were there to learn about the Disney keys to success, gaining invaluable insight on company values and culture from one of the most successful and recognizable institutions on the globe, while having some fun as well.

During the trip, the students participated in the Disney Youth Education Series (YES) program where they took classes that enveloped them in Disney’s philosophies and business techniques, covering topics from leadership strategies, teamwork building and culture excellence.

“The learning process began while we were still on campus, planning our accommodations as a team, making sure everyone knew what we needed to do  to have a successful experience,” said Human Resource Management student, Lia Gomez. “This trip was definitely one that I’ll never forget and will shape the way I think and execute my job in the future.”

The students also had the chance to tour some of Disney’s properties and go behind-the-scenes, listening to guest speakers and speaking with cast members to learn more about the company’s environment.

Tourism Management-Business Development student, Karin Muwanguzi, took home important key messages from the Disney trip.

“Being diverse is a beautiful thing and it comes as a bonus to the team members as well as the company,” she said. “Keeping your values and beliefs help keep the standard of excellence at the work place because everyone’s may be different, but can still add to the company.”
