International Field Study Overview
Day 1 – OCTOBER 20:
Departure from DJP or Welland Campus with your travel group to Toronto Airport with bags packed and ready for an adventure of a lifetime! Try and get some sleep as the exciting adventure awaits. Then, arrive to Milan and check-in to your hotel. Once all settled in, get ready for a Guided tour of Milan! You’ll be exploring iconic landmarks like the awe-inspiring Duomo di Milano and the historic Sforzesco Castle.

Day 2 – OCTOBER 21: Get ready for an exhilarating day delving into Italy’s dynamic business landscape! We kick things off with an insightful presentation on Italy’s thriving industries and the exciting opportunities they present. From the chic confines of the US Consulate in Milan to the cutting-edge offices of Deloitte and KPMG, we’ll explore it all. And here comes the real adventure! Milan isn’t just about fashion and fabulous architecture; it’s also a hotspot for innovation, thanks to the game-changing Italian Startup Act. We’ll dive into the heart of this entrepreneurial spirit with a visit to one of Milan’s buzzing startup hubs. From the creativity hub of Digital Magics to the innovation powerhouse of Plug & Play, the options are as exciting as they come!

Day 3 – OCTOBER 22: From the iconic Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to the luxury allure of Bugatti or the cutting-edge technology of Pirelli, the options are thrilling! But hold onto your seats because our adventure doesn’t end there! Then, we’ll shift gears and head to the IRS, an esteemed research institute dedicated to exploring the fascinating intersection of aging and social policies. Nestled in Milan, this institute is at the forefront of promoting active aging through groundbreaking research, advocacy, and community initiatives.

Day 4 – OCTOBER 23: In the morning, take the time to explore all that Milan has to offer! Relax, explore, shop, just remember to save room in your suitcase! After lunch, this day revs up the excitement with a glimpse into Italy’s Fashion Technology Accelerator. Milan has been at the forefront of revolutionizing the fashion industry. Their mission? To propel the world of fashion forward through groundbreaking business models and cutting-edge digital processes. Today, they stand as a beacon of innovation within an international network, with their headquarters based in Milan and a subsidiary in the fashion capital of London. With a laser focus on the industry’s specific needs and a global perspective, they handpick and collaborate with the crème de la crème of fashion players worldwide.

From state-of-the-art aircraft and helicopters to groundbreaking electronics, cybersecurity, and space systems, Leonardo’s innovations know no bounds. Their commitment to pushing the boundaries of research and development keeps them at the forefront of the industry, driving advancements in unmanned systems, avionics, and satellite communications. Afterwards, we’ll shift our focus to AISPO, a beacon of hope founded by visionaries from the Scientific Institute San Raffaele Hospital of Milan. AISPO is dedicated to implementing international cooperation activities in the health sector, combating poverty, social injustice, and diseases that afflict the world’s most vulnerable populations.

Equipped with state-of-the-art tools like CNC milling machines, 3D printers, and advanced software, these spaces empower innovators to bring their ideas to life, whether it’s creating something entirely new or enhancing existing projects.

* Price per student is in Canadian Dollars and reflects the Be World Ready (BWR) grant which has been applied to the total trip cost to heavily subsidize the rate per person. To qualify for the full value of the BWR grant, students must be enrolled in, and successfully complete the Be World Ready course (learn about the BWR course by clicking here). Assignments, travel requirements, and expectations will be clearly communicated by BWR staff prior to the start of term. Students who do not successfully complete the course risk not meeting the grant requirements, which could result in being charged back the full value of the grant (up to $6000, depending on the IFS).
